Oswaldo Vigas is a seminal figure of
Latin American art, who validated the
cultural heritage of the region by revi-
sing his own artistic roots through the
prism of his global perspective in the
arts. In 1952, Vigas relocated to Paris,
where he lived for fourteen years, devo-
ting mostly to painting. During his stay
he participated in several editions at the
Salon de Mai, exhibiting his work along-
side artists such as Jean Arp, Marc Cha-
gall, Alberto Giacometti, Wifredo Lam,
René Magritte, Henri Matisse, Roberto
Matta, Max Ernst and Pablo Picasso. In
1964 he returned to Venezuela, where he
settled and continued to work untiringly
until his death in 2014 at the age of 90.

Vigas’ work has been showcased in more
than a hundred solo exhibitions, and evi-
dence of his oeuvre is present in nume-
rous institutions as well as in public and
private collections worldwide. A major
anthological exhibition has been trave-
ling throughout the most important mu-
seums of the Americas since 2014.

Oswaldo Vigas. Anthological 1943-2013
is a comprehensive survey that features
the most representative works by the ar-
tist, tracking his artistic evolution from
1943 to 2013. This itinerant exhibition,
shown in Santiago, Lima and Bogotá in
the past year, continues to conquer new
territories throughout the Americas and
is soon heading to the Museu de Arte
Contemporânea da Universidade de São
Paolo, Brasil in April 2016 and (TBA)
other cities in the USA.
