“Superstition” (Left)
MARGARET BERGE HARTGE • NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE
“Th e piece is called ‘Superstition’ and is inspired by a story
by one of Norway’s fi nest authors. A very poor woman
walked in the hills and forests by her homestead while
pregnant. When the child was born, she had a cleft palate,
and the villagers believed it was because her mother had
seen a hare on her walks during pregnancy. Our faces
are imprinted with what we believe and express, and
when it is time to show our true face, it may not be so
simple. Antique quilt fragment, organza, cotton, hand
embroidery, machine quilting, raw edges.”
“The Dreamer”
MARIA STOLLER • ZURICH, SWITZERLAND
“My quilt is hand embroidered on organza fabric
layered over a collage of fabric and paper. Th e subject is
dreaming of her time in a beautiful place with a wonderful
landscape; a place she would love to revisit.”
