  • China used to be a major manufacturer of digital cameras, particularly at the lower
    end.  e collapse in the demand for compact cameras has taken a toll on Chinese
    manufactured cameras as shown below:

    • It is estimated that nearly 1.8 billion
      photos are uploaded each day worldwide.

    • Instagram has 400 million active users.

    • Nikon has announced that a new D5
      professional D-SLR is under development
      along with a new SP-5000 Speedlight.

    • Canon has announced that on
      November 10,2015, it has produced its
      80 millionth EOS camera.  e 70 million
      mark had been reached only 21 months
      ago. Canon has already produced 110
      million EF series lences.

    •  e popularity of the Apple iPhone
      has little to do with the pro ciency of its
      camera. Top end models from the likes of
      Samsung,Sony and Motorola have le the
      iPhone 6s and 6s Plus with their 12MP
      sensor way behind in the imaging quality

  • Similarly, value of digital camera shipments from Japan kept on declining
    after reaching a peak of 1801 million dollars in 2008.
