to develop Delhi as a smart city
France has committed about $
billion over three years for sus-
tainable urban development ven-
tures such as the Kochi metro net-
work slated to begin in 2016.
Germany has already extended
its support for solar and wind en-
ergy project in Indian. German
companies together will develop
12,500 MW of solar and 4,
MW of wind energy projects. It is
also partner for three smart cities.
Japan has evinced interest in in-
vesting in solid waste manage-
ment, upgrading infrastructure
project through Japan Interna-
tional Cooperation Agency.
Dubai is also participating in
the project. Kerala Government
has entered into a partnership
with Smart City Dubai for devel-
oping a similar model in Kochi,
where latter will be investing in
the project over the next eight
years.
World Bank has committed to
provide $1 billion support to In-
dian solar energy projects. Asian
Development Bank has in princi-
ple agreed to extend a loan of $
billion for the implementation of
the Smart Cities Mission.<

HIRTY-FOUR coun-
tries, including the US
and the UK, have
evinced interest in in-
vesting in the ‘Smart Cities’ pro-
ject announced by the Centre, ac-
cording to the Ministry of Urban
Development.
US Trade and Development
Agency (USTDA) and IL & FS En-
ergy Development Company has
signed a grant Grant agreement of
nearly $2 billion for innovative
Wind Integrated Solar Photovol-
taic Energy Storage (WISES) pro-
jects. Apart from that Investment
will include waste management
projects in three cities – Ajmer,
Vishakhapatnam, and Allahabad.
The US Department of Trans-
portation has signed a Memoran-
dum of Cooperation for a Trans-
portation Partnership with
Ministries of Railways, Ministry of
Road Transport and Highways,
Ministry of Shipping and Ministry
of Urban Development to address
transportation elements of smart
cities, such as safety and multi-
modal planning. It will also extend
cooperation on vehicle fuel effi-
ciency standards, promotion of
freight and movement of goods
from Indians ports to its cities.
The UK is collaborating for de-
veloping Bangalore-Mumbai Eco-
nomic Corridor with the help of
private companies from Britain.
International Enterprise Singa-
pore has partnered with Infra-
structure Corporation of the
Andhra Pradesh government to
create Master plan to design and
develop 7,325 sq. km for the new
