scheme, we aim to sensitise people
about the protection and upgrada-
tion of heritage and traditions (both
tangible and intangible) pertaining
to all religions across the country.
The scheme seeks to promote an in-
tegrated, inclusive and sustainable
development of heritage sites, fo-
cusing not just on maintenance of
monuments but on advancement of
the entire ecosystem including its
citizens, tourists and local busi-
nesses,” Venkaiah Naidu, Minister
of Urban Development had said
during the launch of the scheme.
The scheme shall support devel-
opment of core heritage infrastruc-
ture projects including revitaliza-
tion of linked urban infrastructure
for heritage assets such as monu-
ments, ghats, temples etc. along
with reviving certain intangible as-
sets. These initiatives shall include
development of sanitation facilities,
roads, public transportation &
where 100 percent funding will be
provided by Government of India.
As part of this scheme, the Centre
has allocated fund worth Rs.500
crore to be distributed among each
identified heritage city to enhance
the quality of urban life in that city
apart from improving its physical,
social and economic structures.
Funds are to be spend over two
years from the date of launch of the
project spanning over the period of
27 months which will be complet-
ing in March 2017.

The heritage development of city is
not about development and conser-
vation of few monuments, but de-
velopment of entire city, its plan-
ning, its basic services, quality of life
to its communities, its economy and
livelihoods, cleanliness, security, re-
