Creative’s Outlier Gold Earphones are nearly
superb, thanks to an array of smart features,
yet a quirk in their feature set undermines
them. They work independently of each
other, so rather than pairing your device to the
two earphones together, each one is its own
device and they work together. This can feel
awkward to set up, but the net result is a strong

connection and the ability to only

use a single earphone if you want.

Another clever feature is that the carrying

case acts as a charger and holds enough

power to fully recharge the earphones

almost three times. A full charge on the

earphones lasts for around 14 hours.

However, while the Outlier Golds will

happily play back any audio you want on

your phone, whether it’s video, music,

podcasts and so on, you only get their best

quality when employing the SXFI companion

music software, which is limited to MP3s.

This software enables the earphones to

simulate a more studio-like environment,

and the sound quality it provides is

fantastic, but it won’t carry over to movies,

podcast apps or other media, where

the earphones are quite ordinary.

The Outlier Gold Earphones are

great if your priority is MP3 music, and

their comfy snug fit makes them ideal

for exercising too, but they’re not ideal

as general-purpose earphones.
