MAJOR REDEVELOPMENT PLANS

FOR GOSPORT’S HASLAR MARINA

New breakwater pontoons
and 50 deep-water berths
could be installed at Gosport’s
Haslar Marina in Hampshire
if redevelopment plans are
approved.
Currently going through the
planning permission process,
the redevelopment by Dean &
Reddyhoff also includes a new
powerboat centre with an
upgraded public slipway with
pontoon for launching and

recovering powerboats, and a
specialist repair and service
centre providing boatyard and
engineering services.
A new team base is also
planned for Alex Thomson
Racing, as well as a new
clubhouse, with a marine bar/
restaurant, and 28 additional
car parking spaces.
The redevelopment work is
planned to start by the end of
the year.

WAVEBREAK PONTOON
FOR MILLBAY
A steel floating wavebreak
pontoon has been installed at
King Point Marina in Millbay,
Plymouth. It will span across
the marina’s entrance lock and
provide additional protection
for boats berthed at the
marina, as well as flood
protection during storms.

SENNEN STALWART RETIRES
After 35 years’ service, Sennen Cove
RNLI coxswain, Terry George, has
retired, handing over to his son, Ollie.
George, who is an RNLI Bronze Medal

ALL ABOARD FOR BOAT
SECURITY IN POOLE
Boat owners were
encouraged to install security
systems on their boats and
tag their equipment at a
recent Poole Harbour Watch
seminar.
Hosted by Poole Yacht Club,
attendees were also advised
to report theft or damage to
the police as soon as
possible, and were warned
that recovered property can’t
be returned unless ownership
is proved. While marine crime
is low, officers are keen to see
it reduced even further.
The speakers included
Martin Underhill, Dorset Police
and Crime Commissioner.

NORTH WALES

DREDGING
Dredging work is under way
to ensure the entrance to
Hafan Pwllheli Marina in North
Wales remains clear.
Silt has already been cleared
from the harbour entrance,
and a tug boat is now levelling
the main channel through the
outer harbour, which will give
a minimum depth of 0.5m
below chart datum.
Work will then be suspended
during the summer to
minimise disruption to berth
holders before dredging of the
marina basin begins in
October. Boats in the marina
will have to be moved to
alternative pontoons during
each phase of the dredging
programme.

ROBOT BOAT TEST
