OCEAN EXPLORER 60
Ocean Quality Systems, of Finland, has launched a Germán
Frers-designed 60-foot cruising catamaran that made its
European debut last fall, and if all goes as planned, should make its
way to North America later this year or in early 2019. The Ocean
Explorer 60 features a self-tacking jib, C-shaped daggerboards, a
sprit for fl ying off-the-wind sails, twin helms aft and a full-on nav
station, also with helm controls and instruments. Hulls are built
using carbon-fi ber reinforcements, and all-carbon-fi ber construc-
tion is an option. The rig is carbon fi ber as well. To learn more,

BAVARIA NAUTITECH 40 OPEN
When it was launched in 2015, the Marc Lombard-designed
Bavaria Nautitech 40 Open won accolades from CW’s Boat of the
Year judges, who named it Best Multihull Cruiser in the 2016 con-
test. The boat had a simple layout that focused on outdoor living.
In the saloon, there were a small table, nav station and galley; by
design, social activities were intended to take place outside, under
the Bimini. The owners and guest cabins had narrow rectangular
ports, and the interior fi nish throughout the boat was primarily
gelcoat. Last winter at the boat show in Dusseldorf, Germany, an
updated version of the 40 Open was on display, with many more
details added to the interior, giving it a warmer and more upscale
feel. Light oak woodwork and fabrics now adorn the saloon and
cabins. Ports in the hulls have been enlarged to let in loads more
light. And the dinette has been replaced by a comfortable-
looking U-shaped couch. For more photos and details, visit the
