The third twin rudder design from this
Swedish manufacturer is now in build and
will be unveiled to the public in August.
Hallberg-Rassy has coined the phrase
‘push button sailing’ to describe the ease
with which this model can be managed.
Hydraulic in-mast furling is standard, as
are a powered under-deck headsail furler
and powered winches. Options include
hydraulic push-button adjustment of
main and headsail halyard tension, plus
a hydraulic mainsail clew outhaul. In
addition to the standard bow thruster,
there’s also an option for a stern thruster
with docking function. The hinged
bathing platform can also be operated
at the touch of a button and there’s an
optional retractable gangway.
This is another Frers design, and
with a long waterline and maximum
beam carried well aft it offers improved
living space, storage and performance
compared to earlier models. Rig set up

and the sail plan are contemporary and
include a jib with minimal overlap and
split chain plates for the cap shrouds and
lowers, an arrangement that maximises
support for the rig while reducing loads
and allowing unimpeded movement along
the side decks.
The sprit is moulded as an integral
part of the hull, and as well as anchor
and asymmetric spinnaker handling it’s
designed to facilitate boarding when
berthed bows-to on a low quay.
The accommodation, on a single level,
has an owner’s cabin aft, plus two further
guest cabins that share a single spacious
heads forward. One of these is large
enough to be arranged with a peninsula
double bed.
There’s a full-width saloon, plus
proper navigation station and a choice
of locations for the galley. There’s also
a walk-in machinery space housing the
main engine and generator.

Despite all its contemporary elements
this boat remains unmistakably a
Hallberg-Rassy with hallmark styling
including the broad blue stripe, deep
bulwarks, an integrated topside rub rail
and fixed windscreen.

of protection to
those on watch

This is the first new model born out of the
Sweden Yachts Group, which includes
esteemed cruising brands Malö, CR
Yachts and Regina of Vindo. This 48 looks
another quality cruising yacht with a wider
hull that benefits from a proportionately
longer waterline and broader transom
than earlier models. The deck layout is
set up for easy short-handed operation,
including a self-tacking jib.
Two- or three-cabin layouts are offered
as standard, although the company is
happy to work with clients to produce
the arrangement they want. Additional
hatches and hull portlights increase
natural light and ventilation below decks.
Part of the extra hull volume provides a
technical space to house the generator,
watermaker and other systems.
