CONTRIBUTORS

A model, entrepreneur and environmentalist,
Felix sits on the board of ocean conservation
organization Project Zero. He takes part in this
issue’s eco-fashion shoot.

What can we all do to help save the ocean?
Choose seafood wisely, eliminate single-use
plastics, reduce your carbon footprint and
watch what you flush
What are you doing to help?Project
Zero’s raising large sums of money that
will help finish projects all over the world

that have started, but have stalled due to
a lack of support
What initiatives are Project Zero involved
in?Half the world’s population is under
25, and many are still engaged in wasteful
consumption patterns. Engaging, educating
and inspiring people is essential for a cleaner
and more sustainable ocean and planet
What’s coming up next?Project Zero is
partnering with Edition Hotels to raise
awareness and funds to put 30 percent
of the ocean under protection by 2030

interviews all the winners of the Ocean
Awards (page 79).

What’s the most impressive thing
you’ve learned from the Ocean
Awards winners?It’s very good news
that the Ross Sea has been designated
a Marine Protected Area
What do you encourage everyone
to do to reduce ocean pollution?
We need to consume less, reduce
waste and discard as little as possible

  • and do it responsibly and with care
    Has anything really surprised you
    during your research?I’m excited by
the discovery of more than 600 miles
of pristine reef in the Amazon’s mouth

Claire Wrathall Caroline White

Caroline is associate editor ofBoat International US Editionand has worked
forThe Times. She lives in London and her yacht experiences range from
chasing the action at Hamilton Island Race week in Australia to a day
cruising Antigua with Pete Townshend on his classic sailing yacht.

Spotted any sailing yachts you like? The newest WallycentoTango
(page 118) is a work of modern art whose pared-back beauty will appeal
to sailors and non-sailors alike
Ever hauled in a spinnaker?Yes,
on 123ftEscapadeat the Loro Piana
Regatta in Porto Cervo. I was in
physical contact with it anyway.
The pro “rock star” sailors on board
for the racing may have been doing
the heavy lifting...
Most memorable sailing experience?
Falling repeatedly from a Laser into
the Thames at Ravens Ait island, near
London, as a child. I now prefer boats
with competent skippers and spacious
cockpits for keeping out of the way

Kate crewed on a superyacht before
becoming a travel writer and editor.
In this issue she writes a guide on how
to throw the perfect chic-yet-
sustainable party on board (page 44).

Is there anything you’ve learned
while writing this feature that you’ll
implement yourself? Reusable bottles
are at the top of my “must-buy” list
What’s the best piece of advice
you’ve received on entertaining
sustainably?Be proud of it! Make
it fun, get your guests involved and
inspire them to spread the word
Your favorite party trick?Limbo
dancing – on a good day!
What’s the best party you’ve ever
attended?Sailing over the Equator
at midnight in a spa pool in fancy dress
takes some beating
