OWNERS’ CLUB

Brian D’Isernia
Yacht: Columbia
Length: 141ft
Year: 2014
Location: Antigua

Have you had a chance to cruise much recently?
Not much. We had a great time at the America’s Cup in
Bermuda, and then spent the rest of the summer in the New
England area. We were pinned to the dock in Connecticut
due to the hurricanes in late summer/early fall. The crew
had an interesting delivery from Connecticut to Florida,
between two storms, and they were amazed by how well
Columbia handled. Upon arrival, we used the winter to
conduct some repairs and now we’re in the Caribbean
With a rig like that, is she hard to handle? Columbia
definitely needs a few crew who are experienced sailors, but
you can get away with three to four on watch on delivery.
The traditional rig demands human power but it’s helped
with the hydraulic winches. She’s very satisfying to sail on
a long reach. She can really dig in and cut through
Why are you selling her? And what’s next? There are two
Columbias: Columbia I, which is complete, and Columbia II,
which is in four modules at Eastern Shipbuilding Group Inc’s
yard. Columbia I is for sale for someone who wants the
yacht right away. She’s also available to inspect for those
interested in Columbia II. Columbia II doesn’t have any
interior components at the moment, but construction can
be completed in a 12-month time period. It’s available for
those who’d like to create their own interior design. If we sell
Columbia I we’ll complete the second Columbia for ourselves
What are you most looking forward to this season? We’re
very excited to go to the Gloucester Schooner Festival this
year because the original Columbia’s racing rival, Bluenose,
will be there. Bluenose will not ocially race, but will sail the
racecourse. It will almost be like recreating the International
Fisherman’s Cup. We can’t miss that

Every month, you tell us where
you are on the seven seas,
what you can see from your
deck and your top trip tips
