NEW Fareast 37R

The latest boat to come from the increasingly prolific Chinese manufacturer, Fareast, is the Fareast 37R. The

new boat is the biggest in its range to date and is a cruiser-racer – although the design appears to be

geared towards the slightly racier end of the spectrum.

The boat is to be vacuum infused from aluminium moulds for a precise finish. All up she should be

4,400kg, which is certainly on the light side for a 37ft cruiser (a Beneteau Oceanis 35.1 is 5,699kg), again

pointing to racing aspirations. Prices will start from $140,000 ex VAT.

The Mothquito is a new foiler very loosely based on

the Moth, designed to be fast and easy to handle.

Sharing a similarity with the Vortex dinghy (itself

inspired by the Scow Moth of old), the Mothquito

somewhat blurs the line between catamaran and

monohull (the designer Toni Blanc refers to it as a

catamaran), and is undoutedly eye-catching.

It has two main V-foils, both of which extend far

beyond the beam of the hull(s), and also features

two rudder T-foils. The Spanish company behind

the boat, IFS Foiling, are referring to this patented

system as the Increased Foiling System (hence IFS)

and they believe it will provide a significant amount

of stability for foiling. The one-design Mothquito

uses dynamic trim to prevent pitchpoling, allowing

it to carry a larger rig than may be expected, whilst

a carbon construction gives a lightweight hull.

The first one is currently under production with

testing due to be carried out throughout 2018.
