Make sure to reconnect
everything before
pressurising the system
is pumped through with fresh water
thoroughly. Around every five years,
consider replacing the pipework, which
degrades over time and begins to smell.
Your freshwater tank should have been
pumped out over winter. It’s a good idea to
flush the system through as thoroughly as
possible before filling the tanks, checking
every part of the system has been properly
reconnected and that there are no leaks.
This is also a good opportunity to check your
accumulator tank is set to the right level of
pressure to deliver an even, consistent flow.
If your yacht has any hydraulic systems,
the high-pressure pipework and joins should
be thoroughly checked – a leak of fluid can
cause a big mess.
Heads don’t need to be
serviced every year but
pipework should be
replaced every five years
The air filter can be sealed off
with a thick plastic bag, but
don’t forget it’s there
