makes an ideal rigid base for a large, cosy
sprayhood and greatly improves safety
when climbing in or out of the cockpit.
Going below is like shutting the front door
and descending into a warm, luxurious living
room. An abundance of hardwood joinery,
richly coloured veneers and smooth, round
edges gives her a wonderfully traditional
feel. The layout is practical, with plenty of
handholds sensibly positioned to allow you
to move about safely at sea. To me, this is
a key element to a bluewater yacht – being
able to really ‘live’ on board.
She has the required full-width aft cabin,
which was arranged either with a double
and single berth or just a large double with
seating opposite. Headroom is good too,
at just a little under 6ft. The only downside
is the single heads, which is not ensuite, but
is roomy just the same. She has a spacious
forecabin too, with a large vee berth and
good stowage. In fact, stowage throughout
the boat is exceedingly good, with a plethora
of easily accessed built-in lockers all round.
There’s a proper forward-facing chart
table and the saloon seating is very well
appointed, allowing six to dine around the
table comfortably. Her longitudinal galley

is well equipped with excellent stowage and
plenty of worktop area. Being in the corridor
aft also means the cook is more secure
underway, having the engine bulkhead
for support.

The Najad 380 cruising yacht came with
a 41hp (55hp optional) shaftdrive Yanmar
diesel engine with a 350-litre stainless-
steel fuel tank, and she carries 400 litres
of fresh water.
