A difficult-to-miss project taking place at McLoughlin Point on the Esquimalt side of Victoria Harbour is the construction of a
new $775 million sewage treatment plant. The plant will serve Victoria, Esquimalt, Saanich, Oak Bay, View Royal, Langford and
Colwood, plus the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations. Designed to respect the setting, the facility will incorporate a multi-level
green roof, observation deck, and mature landscaping. It will provide tertiary treatment of up to 100,000 litres of wastewater
each day, with residual solids pumped to a separate biosolids facility at Hartland Landfill. A new two-kilometre outfall pipe will
carry the treated water away from shore to water approximately 60 m deep. In the lower photo above, Vancouver Pile Driving
rig VFD 410 is onsite doing dredging work in preparation for the arrival of the pipe, which will be towed fully assembled into
place from the construction facility.
