MAIDEN SAIL FOR BLUE MERMAID
A replica of the 1930 Thames sailing barge, Blue Mermaid, has successfully
completed her first shakedown sail along the River Blackwater.
Commissioned by the Sea-Change Sailing Trust, which provides residential
courses for young people and vulnerable adults, Blue Mermaid was built by Toms and Son in Polruan, Cornwall.

50th anniversary

for Newbury

Newbury Yacht Club has marked its 50th
anniversary with a ball and its traditional
spring cruise.
The RYA-affiliated yacht club is based
in landlocked Newbury, although most
members keep their boats in the Solent.
It holds four rallies annually, including the
10-day spring cruise, which this year saw
nine boats sail to Cherbourg, St Helier,
St Peter Port, Braye, Weymouth and the
Royal Southampton Yacht Club at Gins on
the Beaulieu river. Throughout the winter,
Newbury Yacht Club hosts monthly talks
on ‘all things nautical’ as well as training
and social events throughout the year.
