One thing to remember about overcoming Hashimoto’s is it takes years
to develop the perfect storm to produce Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. In the
same way, healing won’t happen overnight.


Healing Hashimoto’s is a marathon, not a sprint, and the life changes you
make will gradually lead to a healthier, more balanced you.


It is important to do our best to keep a positive outlook and avoid nega-
tive feelings. Our negative emotions wreak havoc on gut and adrenal
function—two of the main promoters of autoimmunity!


Earlier, we discussed the three approaches to Hashimoto’s: eliminating
triggers, restoring depletions, and restoring gut function.


Eliminating triggers. Triggers can take time to discover and eliminate. A
trigger for one person may not be a trigger for another.


This book is based on current research but may be missing other triggers
and factors contributing to Hashimoto’s. Eliminating triggers like infec-
tions, iodine, gluten, food intolerances, fluoride, and other toxins may take
a few days to a few months.


Depletions: Building up your levels of vitamins and nutrients may take
several months to a year.


Gut function: Bacterial overgrowth, Candida overgrowth, gut dys-
biosis, and adrenal dysfunction may take six months to two years to
stabilize.


In the meantime, thyroid hormone supplementation, immune modula-
tion, and throwing the immune system a decoy are available options for
preventing further thyroid damage.


So now you have all of this information, and your head is probably spin-
ning. How can you use all of this knowledge to get better? I recommend
you start by creating your health timeline. This will help you identify
your potential triggers.
