Guyan explains, “When you
walk in, it doesn’t look like a
‘normal’ gym, there are no cable
machines or mirrors. Instead
you’re greeted with fixed cast
iron overhead bars and barbells,
kettlebells and dumbbells.”
As a group, you do a different
‘workout of the day’ aka ‘WOD’
which can last anything from
eight minutes upwards – this is
designed to improve strength
and conditioning and can be
tailored to suit all abilities.
“CrossFit is a family - we
train together, support and
encourage each other - it’s
about community and a sense
of belonging,” says Natalie.
You’ll also get to grips
with a whole new set of
acronyms, as you learn your
EMOMs (every minute on the
minute) from your AMRAPs
(as many reps as possible).
“Training for performance,
rather than weight loss changed
my whole perspective on
how to eat and fuel my body
to thrive,” explains Natalie.
“When I discovered how good
my body is designed to feel
and how empowering it is to
be strong, I no longer sought
comfort in eating and drinking
excessively,” she continues.

FEEL THE
BARRE BURN
This hybrid workout class
combines ballet-inspired
moves with elements of yoga,
pilates, dance and strength
training – performed to high
energy music on the mat or
barre. A low-impact, total-
body workout, it lifts the butt,
tones the thighs, flattens the
abs, and sculpts the arms to
produce a long, lean, dancers
body – without a tutu in sight!
