THE ESSENTIAL YOGA POSES
- Stand at the top of your
mat in Mountain pose.
- Bend your knees and
drop your hips as if you’re
sitting back in a chair.
- Reach your arms up
alongside your ears. If your
elbows are straight, touch
your palms together; if not,
then keep your arms sepa-
rated. Lift your chest as you
draw your abs in.
GAZE: Slightly forward or up to
hands if palms are touching
PRECEDING POSES:
Mountain pose, Warrior I
COUNTERPOSES: Standing
Forward Fold
PRECAUTIONS: If you have
any lower back issues or
are pregnant, separate your
feet hip-distance apart.
TIP: Look down at your toes;
if you can’t see them , shif t
your shins back ward until you
can. The weight of your body
should be in your heels.
