Charlotta Hughes explores the power of visualisation — and how it can be used to
overcome obstacles before they arise — in making your 2018 dreams come true
A
new year and a new beginning: 2018 is here as we
wave goodbye to the past that was 2017.
Whatever 2017 looked like for you — whether it
felt like a tired year, or if its energy is still flowing and
the momentum will now carry on into 2018 — now
is a great opportunity to stop and evaluate our lives...to halt the
autopilot and make sure we have enough of the things we enjoy and,
if we don’t, make some decisions and take actions that will boost
our chances to make 2018 the year we’d love it to become.
A major ingredient in personal wellbeing, and therefore our ability
to implement a positive reality for ourselves, is to be clear on what
we want. Too easily do we focus on what we don’t want, or what went
wrong or what was missing during 2017.
So instead, turn your attention to what you do want and be really
clear on what that looks like for you — this simple process alone
Visualising success
can be incredibly empowering. Then, to take this a step further,
start to visualise the present you’d love to be experiencing...this will
increase your chances of making it your actual reality even more.
This is about vividly imagining the reality you’d like to enjoy: close
your eyes, relax and internally see yourself doing the things you’d
like to have or be capable of. The more detailed your visualisation
the better, and the more you internally experience this ‘reality’, the
stronger your memory of it becomes. And so the more chance you
have of achieving it.
So, in your mind’s eye, see yourself performing a certain skill, such
as a yoga position or public speaking. Or something equally tangible,
like performing in a new job or enjoying a relationship or perhaps to
really see a happier you with greater joy, confidence and balance
across your life — this will move you closer to being able to perform
and manifest those skills.
