the New Year & essential oils
“MY HOPE FOR YOGA IS THAT IT BECOMES MORE INTEGRATED IN DAILY LIFE.”
Yoga Journal recently traveled to NYC to meet with teacher Kat Fowler in partnership with

“I don’t follow resolutions because I always break them...”
your life in the last year and ask, “What would I like to change?” I like to think of something positive that I can
shift, like only speaking positively about a certain thing, or waking up every day and thinking of something
I’m grateful for. It’s these little shifts as opposed to saying something like “I won’t eat chocolate.” You don’t
know what the year will bring you, but you can decide what you want out of it.
“Confidence is the ability to be yourself, comfortably.”
That’s a journey for most women, to feel comfortable in their own skin, based on how you were raised and
what you’ve been told to believe. Once you’re grounded in knowing who you are, and that can happen
through a yoga practice, through meditation, or through being with yourself in stillness, you can approach
each situation with confidence.
“In yoga, essential oils allow you to focus one
of your senses on something pleasurable and
be more present.”
I was introduced to essential oils in my first yoga class, and
it’s just such a calming tradition. I used to adjust every single
student with lavender oil during savasana until the classes
grew too large, so I switched to diffusing. It’s a really sweet
way to end class. I love Nature’s Truth® because the oils are
100% pure. When I use them on my skin, I know what’s
going onto my body is what I see on the label.
