In March 2000, with jet aircraft rumbling above a DFW airport hotel,
a strategic conference on the family created some noise of its own con-
cerning the current condition and future of the Christian family.
At a historic meeting of church leaders assembled from across the
United States, the “Building Strong Families in Your Church” con-
ference aired and discussed virtually every key topic related to the fam-
ily in the new millennium.
Cosponsored by FamilyLife and the Council on Biblical
Manhood and Womanhood (CBMW), an impressive roster of speak-
ers and seminar leaders probed topics as diverse as “How Submission
Works in Practice,” “Raising Modern-Day Knights and Ladies-in-
Waiting,” “Sexual Perversion,” “Church Discipline,” Putting the
Internet to Work for the Family,” and “Father Hunger Among a Lost
Generation.”
The result was a stimulating brew of the best of current thinking
and practice related to family ministry in the church today. I am grate-
ful that Crossway Books had the vision to help us capture many of
these thoughtful presentations in written form.
A collection of four books entitled the Foundations for the
Family Series ultimately will be released by Crossway. I am honored
to join Nancy Leigh DeMoss and Wayne Grudem as editors of these
volumes.
