YOGA FOR BEGINNERS
Of course most people don’t always learn in one manner
only. So if you can find a teacher that does all three of these
things well, you’ll be very fortunate. But above all else, find
someone who makes you excited to practice yoga, no matter
what her teaching style is.
Yoga Retreats and Festivals
One of the fun things about yoga these days is that many
studios and individual teachers conduct retreats all over the
world. These are vacations that focus on yoga, though many
add other activities, such as surfing or snowboarding. Once
you start practicing in a studio, your fellow yogis become
like small families. Eventually, they might turn into great
travel buddies.
Many retreats exist, and finding the one that sounds the
most exciting to you is just a matter of research and asking
around. Perhaps your teacher is planning a retreat or some
of your friends have found one online. You can also seek
out one of the more renowned instructors, find them on a
retreat, and meet new people while exploring the world. Or
you can go to yoga festivals where many different instructors
are teaching.
A yoga festival is great, because they’re usually in a
fun city and attract a wide variety of teachers from all over.
Many of them even have music components to them as well,
offering concerts and dance parties. Some of the bigger yoga
festivals are Wanderlust Festival, Bhakti Fest, Hanuman Festi-
val, and the International Yoga Festival in India, but there are
many more out there if you look online.
