130 The Psalms

Psalm 63

O God, you are my God,
I long for you; I am so thirsty for you.
My whole being longs for you in a dry land, weary without water.
So I have come to see you in the holy place,
to look on your power and your glory.
Your covenant love is better than life, so my lips praise you.
I will bless you all my life; I will lift my hands in your name.
I am fully satisfied, as with plenty of rich food
and with lips full of joy my mouth offers praise.
When I remember you on my bed,
I will meditate on you during the night.
You are such a help to me,
so I sing for joy under the shadow of your wings.
I cling to you with my whole being,
while your right hand holds me.

Those who seek my life will come to ruin;
they will end up deep down in the earth;
they will die by the sword;
they will be food for jackals.
The king will rejoice in God
and whoever confesses faith in him will offer praise,
while the mouth of those who speak lies will be silenced.

Psalm 70

O God, come to my rescue;
LORD, hurry to help me!
May those who threaten my life be ashamed and disappointed;
may those who wish me harm be thwarted and frustrated;
may those who say, ‘Aha, got you!’ back off in shame.
May everyone who seeks you jump for joy and be glad because of you;
may those who love your saving work always say ‘God is great!’
As for me, O God, I am weak and in need.
Hurry to me, you are my help and my saviour.
LORD, do not delay!
