Any advice for new yoga teachers starting out
Take your time and don’t forget your own practice. Don’t compare
yourself as a teacher. Find your own voice and find your own style.
Transparency is a beautiful thing. Just because you are a yoga
teacher you do not need to pretend to be perfect or have it all
figured out. No one does. Break down the walls.
What do know now that you wish you’d known before
That the most powerful thing is to be yourself and have fun along
the way.
Any tips for students new to yoga
Sign up to a beginners course, get a good foundation before you
throw yourself into busy, open level classes. And for gods sake have
fun! Yoga should not be punishment. Find a teacher that you look
forward to seeing, that way it is more likely you will manage to make
it a regular thing.
What do you say to people who feel they’re too out of shape
for yoga
Today is the day to start! I was not fit or flexible when I started
practicing in London. In fact, I wasn’t particularly fit when I did my
first yoga teacher training! But I had strong willpower and I wanted
to change my life and my habits more than anything. That was my
strength that got me through the rigours of ashtanga.
What do you do when you’re not doing yoga
I spend time with friends and my boyfriend. I write and paint and do
normal things like party and celebrate life.
Any tips for incorporating yoga into daily activities
Every moment there is an opportunity to centre into your breath.
When you’re on the tube, walking to work, waiting for a coffee, bring
your awareness to your feet, breathe and come back to your body.
