A touch of class
Your Library sidebar shows
sections for a full range of categories,
but the iTunes Store tabs only offer Kids.
To browse by genre, select Movies or TV
shows, then scroll down to the bottom
to find Browse by Genre.
The searchers
As in Music, pressing Cmd+F or
clicking the search box blanks the main
view while you search; there’s no quick
way to return to the previous view. An
Activity button appears to the left when
downloads are in progress.
My private cinema
Besides organizing your collection
and helping you find new content, the
main purpose of TV is to show videos.
Click a title thumbnail to see details,
or hover and click the Play button at
its bottom left to play full screen.
HOW TO Find and browse videos
New to the Mac, it’s
the home of video
APPLE REFERS TO it as “the
Apple TV app”, but it’s actually
just called “TV”. Serving the
same purpose as its counterpart in iOS,
this new macOS app replaces the Films
and TV Programmes tabs in iTunes.
Since there’s no need for a track
display at the top, Apple has left intact
the horizontal tab bar that it removed in
Music, which is slightly confusing. The
Films and TV Shows tabs here access the
relevant sections of the iTunes Store,
while selecting Library switches the
display to show your existing video
collection in the left sidebar — which in
turn has sections for Films and TV Shows.

STORE WARES
These horizontal tabs list categories
on the iTunes Store, except for
Library, which brings up the left
sidebar seen here to let you browse
your video collection. Click the down
arrow beside Library to see other
local iTunes libraries available on
devices on your network.
PERSONAL SERVICES
In your own library, you’ll also see all
your iCloud video purchases, whether
or not they’ve been downloaded to this
Mac; a cloud icon lets you download
these if not, or you can click Play to
simply download them as you watch.
The Genres section organizes
everything by category.
THE INFORMER
Right–click a video, or hover and
click the three dots icon at its
bottom right, then choose Get Info to
see any details stored with the video
file. You can make changes here for
videos that you’ve imported for
yourself, but you won’t be able to do
this with purchased files.
