Home alone
Any videos you import into the
TV app yourself (rather than purchasing
from the iTunes Store) will appear in the
Home Videos category. If you don’t see
this, hover over Library, click Edit, and
tick any missing categories.

The ex–files
Videos you previously imported
into iTunes on this Mac should appear,
but your videos can’t be synced from the
cloud or between devices like music.
To add a video, go to File > Import
(previously Add To Library).

Lost in space
In TV > Preferences > Files, you
can choose whether to copy imports to
your media folder to keep everything
together. If you don’t, but change your
mind later, go to File > Library > Organize
Library to copy them in.

HOW TO Add your own videos

RESOLUTIONARY ROAD

Try the “4K and HDR” tab under
Library — you may have more
high–res content than you
thought. In 2017, Apple decided all
existing iTunes Store purchases in
HD would be eligible for a free
upgrade to 4K if and when a 4K
release became available.
Although very few older TV shows
have been upgraded to 4K and/or
HDR, many films have.
Note though that whether
purchased or rented, 4K titles can
only be streamed from iTunes
(accessed over the internet while
you watch) — you can only
download an HD version to keep.
And you’ll only get 4K on a recent
iMac or iPad with a 4K screen or
an Apple TV 4K box (connected to
a 4K TV, of course). See bit.ly/
mf4kfrmt for more info.
