he following rows of double treble

are worked in the same way as the

foundation row, except you won’t be

working each stitch into each chain –

instead, you’ll be working each stitch into

the top of the stitch on the previous row

(see below).

This is just as easy as working stitches

into chains – the only extra technique you’ll

need to know is turning chains (see below

right for more). In double treble rows, you

need to count the turning chain (t-ch) as a

stitch at the start of the row, then at the end

of the row work a double treble stitch into

the top of the turning chain of the previous

row. Have a practice and you’ll soon get the

hang of it. The more rows you work, the

larger your piece of double treble fabric.

At the end of each row, count your

stitches (this is the ‘stitch count’) to check

you haven’t made too many or missed any.

It will only take a few minutes and could save

you hours if you spot a mistake, rather than

having to undo your work later!

To finish the row of double treble stitches,

work the final dtr stitch into the top chain of

the turning chain on the previous row.

Your second row of double trebles will be

finished. Repeat Steps 1-3 until you have the

number of rows you need.

Work four chains for the t-ch (see below

right), which counts as the first stitch of the

new row. Work yrh twice and insert hook under

the v-shaped top of the second stitch from the

previous row.

Finish the double treble stitch as before:

yrh, pull yarn through, (yrh, pull yarn

through 2 loops) 3 times. Work a dtr into the top

of each stitch of the previous row.
