CROCHET WITH COLOUR

You can use the above technique to change the colour of rows,
rounds or individual stitches. No matter which stitch you’re
working, the principle is the same: join in the new colour on the
final yrh of a stitch, so that the next stitch will be in the new
colour. For double crochet (shown right), you would insert
hook, yrh, pull loop through and stop. Then pull a loop of the
new colour through the two loops, ready to work the next
stitch. You’ll need to think ahead to where you want to start
working with your new colour and switch to the new yarn in the
stitch before that.

Use the same technique to change colour anywhere on a row

HOW TO CHANGE STITCH COLOUR

1

Start the final stitch of the row, but stop
before working the final yarn round hook
action. For a treble stitch (above), you’d work
yrh, insert hook, yrh, pull loop through, yrh, pull
through first two loops, then stop.

3

Pull the new yarn loop through the
remaining two loops on the hook to finish
the stitch. Pull the old and new yarn ends to
tighten the loop on the hook.

2

Cut the old yarn, leaving a long tail (about
10cm long). Now loop your new yarn colour
around the hook, leaving a long tail of yarn
(about 10cm long).

4

Now you can work the turning chain of the
new row in the new colour (3ch for treble).
Then work the stitches of the new row in the new
yarn colour.
