Start crocheting

Each square on Stag Chart represents one
double crochet.

Cushion
With A, chain 65.
Row 1 (RS): Starting in 2nd ch from hook,
64 dc. Turn. 64 sts
Row 2 (WS): 1 ch (does not count as a st),
dc across. Turn.
Rows 3-80: As Row 2.
Fasten off.

Cross Stitches
With RS facing, use B, C, D and E to cross
stitch stag design from Stag Chart onto
front of Cushion using tutorial below.
Cut a length of B that’s comfortable to work
with and thread it through tapestry needle,
around 25cm should be more than plenty.
Starting in 31st stitch of Row 10 cont as
follows:
1: Insert needle from back to
front at bottom-right corner of
designated st and draw needle
up, leaving a 7cm tail on the
back, to weave in later.
2: Insert needle at top-left
corner of same st and then
bring it back out at bottom-left
corner of same st, pull yarn
through until it stretches neatly
across the st.
3: Rep last step across row for
cross stitches worked in same
colour, working from right to left.
First half of row is now complete.
4: Insert needle into top-right corner
of same st and bring it out at the bottom-
right corner of same st, pull yarn through
until it stretches neatly across st.

Cross-stitching on crochet is a great way to decorate a simple

cushion for the festive season

Festive Stag

CUSHION

First cross stitch completed by forming
second part of X, over first part completed
in steps 2 and 3.
5: Complete each rem cross st across
row in the same manner, working from
left to right.
When you run out of yarn, weave in ends
on WS of cushion for several centimetres
to hide the strands, and then cut off
excess yarn.

Using instructions above, work from Stag
Chart in colours B, C, D, E.
With E and using photo as a guide, outline
stag, nose, ears and eyes back stitches.
With J and using Stag Chart, surface slip
stitch lines across antlers.
