Step 11
1 As you can see, the final area of the
building is painted in the same way as
before, with the same colours as the
last building.
2 With a mix of ultramarine blue and burnt
sienna, paint the area of the large door.
3 For the ivy, split the No. 8 Round brush
and stipple on yellow ochre, followed by
a strong mix of Hooker’s green and burnt
sienna, and, finally, for the darker areas,
ultramarine blue and burnt sienna.
4 To paint the area of wall in front of this,
leave a little of the white paper showing
on top before adding the shadow mix
underneath the ivy, the diagonal line cast by
the wall onto the building and a little area to
the right, cast by the ivy onto the building.
5 Paint the two trees on the right-hand side
behind of the building in the same way as
the ivy, but slightly weaker.

Step 12
1 Use the^3 ⁄ 4 in. flat brush to apply
a watery mix of Charles Evans sand across
the foreground. While this is still wet, add
a little yellow ochre here and there, and
add touches of weak ultramarine blue.
2 Allow this to spread and dry before
adding the stones, curling out into the
foreground, using raw umber.
t
3 Add the silhouetted figure using a strong
mix of ultramarine blue and burnt sienna.
4 Once dry, paint the strong shadows
coming from the buildings from left to
right using ultramarine blue and light red.
Place the small area of shadow cast by the
wall on the right and by the bush on the
extreme right, and you are finished.
