Aniston’s Friends
“We went from friends to
a family,” said Jennifer
Aniston (2), as she was
backed by her former
co-stars turned present-
ers Courteney Cox (2)
and Lisa Kudrow (2) while
accepting one of four
honors from SAG-AFTRA
Foundation’s Patron of
the Artists. “It taught
me to surround myself
with supportive people
who made me not only a
better actor, but a better
person,” added Aniston,
whose Friends reference
also proved to be a theme
of the night at the Wallis
Annenberg Performing
Arts Center: actors help-
ing actors. The program
honored Mark Ruffalo (6),
Greg Berlanti (12) and
Ava DuVernay (1) with
tributes from Leonardo
DiCaprio (7), Norman
Lear (4) and David
Oyelowo (1), respectively.
Ovation-inciting perfor-
mances were given by
Cynthia Erivo (8) and
Chrissy Metz (11). “I’ve
witnessed firsthand all that
actors give up ... to make
us think and feel with their
art,” said Berlanti, “and to
be a part of the great chain
of empathy that is more
important today than ever.”

A Toast to Theron
“I am just so blown away
— I have never had any-
thing like this,” Charlize
Theron (14) effused as
she accepted the 33rd
American Cinematheque
Award at the end of a long
and raucous celebra-
tion of her career at the
Beverly Hilton. Bombshell
director Jay Roach,
Seth MacFarlane (14),
David Oyelowo, Kristen
Stewart (15) and Seth
Rogen (16) were among
those who alternately
toasted and roasted
the actress-producer.
“Honestly, the worst
thing that I can say about
Charlize is that I am the
best person they could
get to present to her,” said
Rogen, provoking two mid-
dle fingers from the gleeful
honoree. AMC Theatres
chief Adam Aron (18)
accepted the Sid Grauman
Award. — SCOTT FEINBERG
