DESERT AFFAIR
Pushkar, Rajasthan
Celebrated in October –
November, the Pushkar
mela is one of the largest
camel fairs in the world.
Thar camel drivers spruce up
their camels and start the long
walk to Pushkar, just in time
for kartik purnima (full moon).
Each year, around 2,00,000
people converge here, along
with roughly 50,000 camels,
horses and cattle. The place
becomes an extraordinary hub
of colour and sound, thronged
with musicians, mystics, tourists,
traders, animals, devotees and
camera crews. It’s definitely
an experience that should be
on your bucket list.
