The week’s best live action

Big Dreams, Small
Spaces, Friday.

CRICKET
Not many Kiwis are playing
in the Caribbean Premier
League this year; the Black
Caps are chiefly involved in
gearing up for the England
tour, which begins on
November 1 with a T20
at Hagley Oval. However,
Colin Munro and Jimmy
Neesham can be seen in
the Trinbago Knight Riders,
against Chris Gayle’s
Jamaica Tallawahs, along
with Kiwis George Worker
and Glenn Phillips, on Saturday (Sky Sport 2, 12.30pm).
The Ashes may have been decided by the time we hit the
streets, but at press time, the fourth test was still under
way. As the series draws to a close, it will be regarded
with fondness, especially for the extraordinary batting of
England vice-captain Ben Stokes. The last three days of the
fifth test run Saturday-Monday (Sky Sport 2, 9.00pm).

young doctor Ruby Walker
(Amrita Acharia), who moved
from the UK to India after a
break-up.

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 19
Ainsley Eats the Streets (Choice
TV, 4.30pm). Ainsley Harriott
isn’t the first chef to head out
in search of interesting street
food, but in this series, he
finds the real deal by connect-
ing with local food bloggers.
Destinations include Reykja-
vik, Morocco, Penang and
Madrid.

Taskmaster (TVNZ Duke,
8.30pm). That Rose Matafeo:
an Edinburgh Comedy Award,
a BBC sitcom, and now
Taskmaster, the show that
comedians love to love. Greg
Davies and Alex Horne set the
tasks and the comedian with
the most interesting or crea-
tive method wins the points.
Matafeo may have her work
cut out – her fellow contest-
ants include comedy legends
David Baddiel and Jo Brand.

Room 104 (SoHo2, Sky 210,
9.00pm). You never know what
you’re going to get with this
anthology series set in the
room of a chain hotel near
an airport. It could be funny,
tragic, scary or heat-warming,
which is what makes it so
entertaining. It’s created by

brothers Jay and Mark Duplass,
who were also behind Together-
ness, the comedy series starring
Melanie Lynskey. There is a
long list of actors who have
appeared in Room 104, includ-
ing Mahershala Ali, Michael
Shannon and Natalie Morales;
season three features an
appearance by Luke Wilson.

FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 20
Big Dreams, Small Spaces
(Choice TV, 9.30pm). New
Zealand television seems to
have long ago abandoned
the humble garden make-
over show, or even gardening
shows in general, more’s the
pity. We’ll just have to make
do with Monty Don and the
tiny backyards of Britain. He’s
on hand with sage advice (or
possibly advice about sage) for
ordinary homeowners who
have big ideas but need steer-
ing in the right direction.

Ta sk ma s te r, Thursday.

RUGBY
Time for a look at the next Portia Woodmans and Beauden
Barretts. If measles hasn’t spoilt the party, Prime has
coverage of the top schoolgirl and schoolboy rugby finals,
which will be played at the Sport & Rugby Institute in
Palmerston North. Coverage of the top four girls’ teams is
on Saturday (Prime, 2.30pm) and the top four boys’ teams
is on Sunday (Prime, 2.30pm).

FOOTBALL
It’s week five in the
English Premier League, so
early days, but last year’s
champions, Manchester
City, and runners-up,
Liverpool, are already
showing their dominance.
Liverpool are at the top of
the league table, having
won all four matches
so far, and they’re up
against Newcastle this
Saturday (Spark Sport,
11.30pm). Man City are
away at Norwich (Spark
Sport, Sunday, 4.20am). See
sparksport.co.nz for the
rest of the draw.

Manchester City’s
Raheem Sterling.
