olive green, cream
Embroidery floss: olive green, black,

CUT THE PENNANTS

Fold one 4×10-inch novelty print rectangle
in half with right sides together to create
a 4×5-inch rectangle. Fold in half again to
make a 2×5-inch rectangle. Place 2-inch
folded edge at the top.
For pointed bottom: Measure up 1 inch
from bottom edge on unfolded side of
rectangle; mark. Using a straightedge and
marking pen, draw a line from side mark
to opposite bottom corner. Cut along line.
Unfold pennant.
For notched bottom: Measure up
1 inch from bottom edge on folded side
of rectangle; mark. Using a straightedge
and marking pen, draw a line from mark
to opposite bottom corner. Cut along line.
Unfold pennant.
Repeat to make fi ve pennants.

EMBROIDER THE PENNANTS

Trace patterns in Pattern Pack onto
white paper; cut out. Trace each shape
onto appropriate felt color; cut out shapes.
Machine-stitch each felt design onto a
background shape, using matching sewing
thread and stitching a scant^1 ∕ 8 inch from
edges. For pumpkin, stitch each segment
separately. Do not machine-stitch brew
onto cauldron.
Go to page 111 or BHG.com/HCStitches
to see stitch diagrams. Use two strands of
fl oss for all stitching.
Using olive green embroidery fl oss, stitch
random French knots to attach brew to
cauldron and background shape. Satin-
stitch eyes and straight-stitch nose on skull
using black fl oss.
Center an embellished felt background
shape on the bottom half of each pennant.
Referring to photo, above, and stitching
a scant^1 ∕ 8 inch from all edges, attach
backgrounds using desired color fl oss and
French knots, straight stitches, running
stitches, or cross-stitches.

ASSEMBLE THE BANNER

Refold a pennant with right sides and points
together. Use matching sewing thread and
a^1 ∕ 4 -inch seam allowance to sew around the
pennant, beginning and ending stitching

(^1) ∕ 2  inch from fold and leaving a 2-inch
opening in pennant. Clip points.
Turn pennant right side out through
2-inch opening; press. Use black sewing
thread to topstitch around pennant, leaving
the^1 ∕ 2 -inch opening on each side near fold.
Repeat for all pennants.
Thread an embroidery needle with
bakers twine, then feed the needle through
the channel at top of a pennant. Thread
two felt balls onto the twine, then add
another pennant. Continue alternating felt
balls and pennants onto the twine. Space
felt balls and pennants on twine as desired.
Trim bakers twine, leaving a long tail on
each end for hanging.
