Matt Lauer ‘Asks to Be Seated in a Quiet Corner’
After nearly two years of exile, Matt Lauer is tiptoeing back into society
in New York summer enclave Sag Harbor. The former To d ay host had
been hunkered down at Strongheart Manor, a 14,000-square-foot
North Haven compound he bought from Richard Gere for $36.5 million
in 2016, a year before getting booted by NBC amid sexual misconduct
claims. But locals report that Lauer, 61, has been spotted cruising on
his motorcycle and enjoying meals at such local hotspots as Dopo La
Spiaggia and Bell & Anchor. Says a source, “He asks to be seated in a
quiet corner so people won’t notice.” Another resident says Lauer also
has become a regular at SagTown coffee. “He comes for breakfast; when
people come up to him, he’s very receptive.” There have been no sight-
ings of Lauer on a date, but his ex, Annette Roque, was seen at Bilboquet
with a mystery man, sharing photos and laughing. — BETH LANDMAN

Bernie Presses the Flesh
(and Eats a Steak) at Chez Jay
Before Bernie Sanders spoke at
Santa Monica High School in
July, he asked some locals where
he should grab dinner. The clear
consensus was Chez Jay, the
shack-like restaurant on Ocean
Avenue that’s been serving steaks
and sand dabs to movie stars
for 60 years (Julie Andrews and
Blake Edwards had their first
date there, while Matt Damon and
Ben Affleck once wrote scripts in
its red booths). Sanders and his
entourage ended up taking over
half the dining room, with the

Family Guy writer (and Instagram
royal family satirist) Gary Janetti,
whose precise coffee-ordering
habits long have been memorial-
ized on husband Brad Goreski’s
feed (the stylist has 526,000 fol-
lowers). “The intensity with which
he orders is very specific,” says
Goreski. “So I posted a compila-
tion video.” That video went viral
over the summer, with Goreski’s
followers from Saudi Arabia to
Australia posting their own clips
ordering the drink. Although
Starbucks corporate offices won’t
comment, at least one branch— at
the corner of Wilshire and Santa
Monica in Beverly Hills — has put
The Gary on its menu.

Kacey Musgraves’ One-Hour
Photo Shoot in Koreatown
Country singer Kacey Musgraves
was recently driving around L.A.
looking for a spot to develop a
roll of old-fashioned film. She
randomly ended up in Koreatown,
at Tom’s One-Hour Photo, where
owner To m Tu n g not only printed
her snaps but took some of his
own, with Musgraves sitting for
portraits in front of his hand-
made backdrops. “It’s one of
those rare mom-&-pop gems,”
the 31-year-old Grammy winner
gushed on Instagram, sharing
Tung’s photos with her 1.9 million
followers. Not surprisingly, busi-
ness at the shop, which opened in
1991 and has been struggling in
recent years, is suddenly boom-
ing, so much so that Tung was
too busy to talk when Rambling
Reporter dropped by. “We work
hard,” says Tung’s wife, Lisa. “But
it’s not easy to make money.”

candidate ensconced at table 10,
a secluded spot toward the back.
But that didn’t stop him from
schmoozing with voters. “They
were very nice,” reports GM Chris
Anderson. “Bernie was cordial.
It was crazy when he walked out,
all these people [shouting] his
name.” Sanders’ stopover was
just the latest profile-raising
happening at Chez Jay. The res-
taurant also recently popped up
as a location on Goliath, Amazon’s
Billy Bob Thornton series cre-
ated by David E. Kelley (who took
Michelle Pfeiffer there for their
first date). — LESLEY BALLA

a Viral Starbucks Drink

drink everybody’s asking for
