trail of James Power, his
maternal grandfather, to

in Irish independence

surprises in store as
even the little that he thought
he knew about Power is proved
wrong. Paul knows even less
about his paternal side and,
back in London, the story of his
poor, working-class forebears
is also short on levity and
mirth, with one
of them having
ended up behind
bars following an
assault involving
a banjo.
