CRITICS’ CHOICE
DEADPAN comedian Paul
Merton wonders where he gets
his funny chops from, given
that he knows next to nothing
about his family history beyond
his late parents. Following the
trail of James Power, his
maternal grandfather, to
Ireland, Paul (pictured)
learns of Power’s role
in Irish independence
— and there are
surprises in store as
even the little that he thought
he knew about Power is proved
wrong. Paul knows even less
about his paternal side and,
back in London, the story of his
poor, working-class forebears
is also short on levity and
mirth, with one
of them having
ended up behind
bars following an
assault involving
a banjo.

SHOP DECOR
Interior Design Masters, 8pm, BBC2
THERE are eight would-be designers left

other than the ‘queen of shops’, Mary Portas.

active ingredients — THC and CBD —
help patients, but also finds that research
is lacking and the drug’s efficacy is
largely down to ‘trial and error’.
DARK TALE
Deep Water, 9pm, ITV
THE lives of Lisa, Roz
and Kate become ever
more intertwined as
the Lake District
thriller continues.
Lisa (Anna Friel) tries
to steer clear of the Rivertys,
but Kate (Rosalind Eleazar)
continues to reach out. Roz
(Sinead Keenan, pictured

finds family life after her
transaction with Scott
increasingly complicated.
