Craft your family’s history by collecting as many facts and pieces
as possible. Start by filling in a family tree based on what you


already know. Then interview relatives (recording their voices
on a mobile device will help streamline access to and use of this
information later). Note new names referenced, and when possible,


ask different family members to share their stories of overlapping
events. Rummage through family members’ attics, closets, or
chests of old photos for more pieces of your shared story. If you


don’t have many living resources or connections to your family or
if you want to extend your research, consider an online site like


ancestry.com or hire a professional genealogist through a site
such as trace.com. The type of materials you end up gathering can
