The monocoque tub is nicely detailed but does require the removal of some
large moulding tabs from its flanks
With the adjustments made to the kit components, painting can begin. Here,
Zero Paints Semi-Gloss Black, Aluminium and Yellow are being applied
Still at the test-fitting stage, we can see the side panels, rear wing and
body cover being checked. It cannot be over-emphasised how important it
is to constantly check how each part sits against its neighbour before any
cement and paint is applied
The main shades have been applied and the paint allowed to fully harden.
Another fit-check is then made
In this view we can observe the main cockpit tub which features a full set of
foot pedals and the associated plumbing leading from them. Not the engine
block is now in its striking alloy and blue colours
In large-scale Formula 1 models like this, the semi-pneumatic tyres look
extremely realistic and even develop their own, subtle flat-spots under the
weight of the model
The engine, gearbox and rear suspension has been assembled and awaits
the installation of the exhaust system and turbochargers
Gradually, after days and weeks of methodical construction and painting, we
arrive at the sub-assembly stages when the model really starts to take shape
