RYE FIELD MODEL,
CHINA
GERMAN STAFF CAR
TYPE 82E WITH FULL
INTERIOR
http://www.tigerhobbies.co.uk
SCALE: 1:35
MATERIALS: IM, PE, WS
ITEM NO.5023
The ‘KdF’ (Kraft durch Freude:
Strength through Joy) car is,
of course, best known as the
Volkswagen Beetle but it started
off in 1930s Nazi Germany as
a car that everyone could own.
We all know the history that
followed. 1:35 kits of the early,
wartime vehicle have come and
gone but now that Rye Field
Model have released their own
take on the design, we have
a serious contender for the
best miniature replica of it yet.
The model is provided with a
full interior (surely all car kits
have this?) and that extends
to a very neat depiction of the
four-cylinder air-cooled ‘boxer’
engine that the VW made famous.
The cabin is indeed very well
appointed, with duckboards
moulded into the inner floor
and an excellent rendition of the
dashboard and seats. Both the
bonnet and boot can be fitted in
the open positions and the latter
comes with a spare wheel/tyre
and fuel jerrycan, a nice inclusion.
The doors too can be placed in
the open pose and an intelligent
touch is the provision of separate
liners for the doors to hide the
inevitable ejector pin marks.

BANDAI, JAPAN
STAR WARS X-WING
STARFIGHTER
http://www.revell.de/en
SCALE: 1:72
MATERIALS: IM, WS, SAS
ITEM NO.01200
There are only three words to
describe this kit: brilliant, brilliant,
brilliant! As we have mentioned
previously in these review pages,
Revell now have the licensing to
distribute Bandai’s extraordinary
Star Wars kits outside of Japan
and we are grateful for that.
The 1:72 X-Wing, for a small kit,
comes with a generous quantity
of parts: no simple, quick-build
kit here. The fuselage is based
around a ‘core’ that comprises
the cockpit and open dorsal-
panel detail, complete with a tiny
R2D2 head, for which a decal
(or sticker) is provided. Extra
parts are fitted to this central
moulding to further amp-up the
appearance of greeblie-esque
complexity. As intimated above,
the kit comes with two sets of
markings; self-adhesive stickers
and traditional waterslide decals.
It’s a great idea for beginners
and younger modellers who
want to build their X-Wing
quickly and get the colour panels
and symbols on, but doesn’t
forget the enthusiast who will
want to paint, weather and
decal the kit in their own way.
Absolutely fantastic stuff and
a portion of the Death Star is
included too!

An icon of motoring and
civilian/military vehicle
design with some very
fine detail and thoughtful
design features

Another wonderful
subject with loads more
detail than you might
expect

Very little amiss here

The illustrations in the
instructions are a bit small
