Inspired by a design blog, this
Indiana-based homeowner created
an airy, modern eating space.

hen Kelsey Johnston and husband Tyler moved
from Indianapolis to rural Indiana in 2016,
they couldn’t fi nd a farmhouse fi xer-upper that
met their needs, so they built a modern one. She and Tyler chose
to install Pella® windows throughout because of their energy
effi ciency and clean design. The kitchen was inspired by blog-
gers Chris and Julia Marcum, who chronicled their own kitchen
reno on Chris Loves Julia. “An open-concept living, dining, and
kitchen area was a must,” says Kelsey. “I loved the fl ow of Julia’s
kitchen, and the ability for guests to move from one space to
the next.” See more of Kelsey’s home at bhg.com/pellagallery.

LIGHT SOURCE

Maximizing natural light can instantly increase the
value of a home, but harsh midday rays can spoil the
experience. And window coverings tend to attract
dust and dirt. That’s why Pella’s new Lifestyle Series
windows and patio doors are available with integrated
blinds or shades. The affordable, customizable line
also comes with enhanced performance options that
reduce street noise as well as drafts.

With its white walls
and natural wood, the
Johnstons’ kitchen,

after that of bloggers
