(ff) #1

DIGITAL/BUSINESS

Nominated by: Ben Powell-Jones,
head of programming, LadBible
After landing a place on Endemol
Shine’s Creative Internship
Scheme, Daniel Lorimer secured a
researcher position at Remark able
Television, which coincided with
a period in which the indie bagged
four commissions.
Over a two-year period, Daniel
was part of a team that devised
shows such as All Together Now
(BBC1) and Richard Osman’s House
Of Games (BBC2).
He rose through the ranks
to development AP before leaving
Remarkable earlier this year to
join LadBible as its fi rst entertain-
ment producer, where he’s been

tasked with kickstarting the social
platform’s move into original
formats and IP.
“He’s an amazing development
producer – the complete package

  • as evidenced by the many com-
missions under his belt at such
an early stage in his career,” says
    LadBible’s Ben Powell-Jones.
    So far, Daniel has delivered
80 pieces of celebrity content for
    LadBible across many different
platforms, resulting in a hike in
    YouTube views of 128%.
    “He’s revolutionised our celeb-
    rity content, transforming the way
it is fi lmed and edited, as well as
coming up with the formats them-
    selves,” Powell-Jones adds.

Nominated by: Lindsay Jex,
executive producer,
Phil McIntyre Television
Chris Quaile took the enormous
risk of leaving an established
position at an agency to form
his own company in 2016. Fast-
forward three years and the
decision has paid dividends.
With a fantastic eye for spotting
the best comedy talent, Chris has
already achieved success with
Individual Artist Management,
having been responsible for for-
warding or establishing the
careers of the likes of Fern Brady,
Sofi e Hagen and Alfi e Brown.
The former Get Comedy agent’s
work with Hate Thy Neighbour’s
Jamali Maddix is undoubtedly his
crowning glory, and he has just
helped land the comedian a debut
Channel 4 commission for the
forthcoming Futureland, while
assisting with the set-up of the stand-
up’s fl edgling indie World Piece.
Phil McIntyre exec Lindsay Jex
sees him expanding his agency
Stateside and developing Individual
Artist Management into a produc-
tion arm that supports its clients, in
the vein of an Open Mike or Avalon.
“Chris is one of the most
dynamic agents working on the
comedy scene,” she adds.
“I have had the pleasure of
working alongside him for three
years, during which time he has
brought me exciting talent-led
television ideas and shown himself
to be a fount of knowledge.”
Underpinning his “strong
negotiating skills” is what Jex
describes as a “genuine sense of
what both parties are looking to
get out of a deal”.

AGENT, INDIVIDUAL ARTIST

MANAGEMENT

Nominated by: Diane Banks,
founder and chief executive,
Northbank Talent Management
Earlier this year, James Carroll
was made a director of fl edgling
talent agency Northbank at the age
of 27, an appointment in keeping
with the speed at which he has
progressed through his career.
James was just 23 when he was
promoted to become an agent at
former employer Peters Fraser +
Dunlop and he has been putting
experience gained at this early
stage of his career to fantastic use.
Since joining Northbank in 2018,
he has optioned more than 15 books
for screen adaptations, negotiating
with the likes of Fremantle, Lions-
gate and Mammoth Screen.
This culminated in a recent green
light from Amazon for Fremantle’s
Italian label Wildside, for true-
crime memoir Mafi a Princess, which
will begin fi lming later this year.
“James has exceeded his
targets in his fi rst year by 25% and
quickly established Northbank as
a signifi cant player on the broad-
cast scene, working with all major
production companies and chan-
nels in the UK and US,” says
Northbank’s Diane Banks.
She hails his “diplomacy and
people skills” combined with an
“aptitude for developing and
pitching ideas”.
All3Media head of literary
acquisitions Hannah Griffi ths
similarly praises James’ “clarity
and thoughtfulness” and says
she is always happy to prioritise
his submissions.
“He understands and balances
the needs of his writers and pro-
ducers,” she adds.
