T
he robust growth potential
of Pannar’s Majoris white
oats cultivar ensures that it
delivers a large volume, making
it ideal for rounding off livestock.
According to Delwyn Robbers
of the farm Fairbridge in the
Maclear district in the southern
Drakensberg, the significant yield
delivered by the Majoris cultivar
is the reason this cultivar remains
hisfirstchoiceforbaledoats.
The plants, which grow between
1,5m and 1,8m in height, deliver
“a massive yield”, he says.
Robbers has been planting
the cultivar for the past
four years and uses it as
roughage in his feed mix.
He farms Dohne Merino
sheep, and also runs a Brangus
and Charolais stud along
with his commercial herds.
His grain component comprises
maize and soya bean, as well
as Japanese radish, ryegrass (on
which the sheep graze in winter)
and oats that he grows in rotation.

Oats can be used in feed mixes to round off cattle on the veld or in the feedlot. Pannar’s Majoris
white oats cultivar produces substantial volume and can be ground or baled.
