have never been married to any one hairstyle,”
explains Olympia Valance. “I’m a big believer
in giving things a go.” Ahead of her InSt yle
shoot, the Playing for Keeps actor and L’Oréal
Professionnel ambassador sat in the hairstylist
chair ready to switch up her look. The result? Natural,
sun-kissed highlights and an eye-grazing fringe—
Parisian cool-girl nonchalance at its best. “It’s like a
brand new me!” she exclaims. Here, Valance, 26, shares
her fast and foolproof styling tricks, plus her top tip for
tackling bangs every day.
You’ve had a hair transformation—what inspired the
change? “What’s everyone’s favourite overused saying?
A change is as good as a holiday. I’m in desperate need of
a holiday but, for now, my new hair will have to do!”
What was your hair like before your cut and colour
update? “I was sporting a dark brown base with
grown-out bangs. I was definitely ready for a revamp.
I didn’t even realise how much so until it happened.”
We love your new fringe! Do you have any tips for
styling bangs every day? “A s k y o u r h a i r s t y l i s t o n
the day of your cut how they’re planning on styling it,
then practise alongside them. Once they show you, wet
it back down t hen t r y it you r self wit h t hei r g u ida nce.
There’s nothing worse than the panic of ‘What do
I do now?’ after that first shower at home.”
What is the most drastic change you’ve ever made to
your hair? “I went shoulder-length short when I was
on Neighbours around four years ago. It was a massive
change because I lopped about 30cm worth of hair off.”
Did you have a favourite look on the day of the InStyle
shoot? “No surprises here, the style with my fringe down
[p99]. This was a joy to model—I didn’t realise how much
I missed having a fringe until it made its return.”
Can you talk us through how you style your hair in the
morning? “I blow-dry my fringe as soon as I get out of
the shower, while it’s still very wet. Once dry, I spray it
with a small amount of L’Oréal Professionnel Savage
Panache—it’s a powder spray that gives the most
amazing texture and hold. Then, if I’m running out
the door, I’ll tie the rest back in a messy bun.”
Do you have a go-to going-out hairstyle? “A slick
high ponytail or bun. It’s quick and easy, elevates
any outfit and immediately makes me look like I’ve
made more of a n ef for t a nd had more t i me to get
ready than I ever actually do.”
