his month we deal with one of
the most anticipated aircraft
kits of recent times: the Airfix
1:24 F6F-5 Hellcat. There
cannot be too many aircraft
kits that have not only been released
amidst a fanfare normally associated
with a movie release, but also been part
of a rather wonderful TV programme,
so being able to see a sample arrive
and then be able to begin work on it is
something of a treat.
The Airfi x Hellcat is a very important
release for this famous company because
it further announces their return to the
forefront of the industry. Though we had
a tantalising glimpse of their future plans

and ability to translate those plans into
miniature with their much-vaunted 1:
Typhoon, it is with the release of the Hellcat
that we can see just how far they have
come. Though it would be rather forward
of me to draw a conclusion before I’ve
completed the model, so far the feeling is
that this new release is not only Airfi x’s best
yet, it is up there with the best available
elsewhere as well. It’s awfully complex
of course, with a huge number of parts
to assemble, pointing to a project that is
unashamedly aimed at the more expert
amongst you, but even so, the resulting
build is certainly something to behold.
