(Romina) #1
and included much of the stowage parts
in one large block. Other parts included
the canvass roof, the rear jerry can shelf,
four chunky wheels with tyres, and the
interior parts like the display monitor. I
was looking forward to the challenge!
My kit of choice to convert was the
Tamiya 1:35 Humvee M1025. This is a
brilliant kit by itself, and one I would
love to make straight-from-the-box. The
detailing was fantastic as this is one of
Tamiya’s newer kits, and assembly was
also typically Tamiya, as it went together
with no issues. The main challenge was
iguring out which resin parts go where!
I decided to start with the biggest
part - the large block of resin which sits
in the rear of the truck and includes
things like rucksacks, load vests,
sleeping bags, roll mats, jerry cans
and a spare wheel. Other nice features
include a large cool box at the back
and a baseball cap on top! This went in
with little issues, although it was slightly

warped and it was too big to heat up
and bend back, so I just had to make
do... the result was ine, the chassis
was ever so slightly warped as a result
but it didn’t notice at the end of the
build. Once this was in position, I put
in the replacement seats which were
very nicely moulded, and from there
I was able to build the interior around
it. Some lovely parts of the interior
are the monitor, keyboard and radio. I
was worried I wouldn’t be able to ind
these parts amongst the others, but
eventually I igured out which parts
these were and itted them. The ire
extinguisher and M4 Carbine inished
of the interior. At the rear is a shelf
containing jerry cans, which came as
one large piece and itted nicely. There
were bags and netting to add to the
side, along with a couple of M249 SAW
machine guns. Another M4 Carbine
was placed on top of some ammunition
crates to inish of the look. The canvas
roof was also very nicely made, with
ittings for the kit M19 Grenade
Launcher and three

shoulder-ired rocket launchers on top,
and nicely moulded internal parts. The
rear frame which holds the roof was
diicult to it, this was a result of the
large rear resin part warping the chassis,
but with some manipulation I managed
to get it itted. The large wheels and
tyres were then glued in place to inish
the build.
I primed the entire model using
Vallejo Matt Black Primer, before using
a mix of Tamiya XF-59 Desert Yellow
and XF-57 Buf for the base coat. This
was applied in thin layers to allow
the dark primer to show through as
shadows. I then lightened up the base
colour by adding more Buf to the mix
and applied this in the large areas as
highlights. I then lightened this up
even more by adding Tamiya Flat White
and applied this with a small brush to
raised upper surfaces to add even more
highlights. To blend these diferent
tones, I used the Ammo by MIG Ochre
for light sand ilter and applied this in
a few thin layers over the entire body
of the vehicle and the wheels. This
gives a nice inish and dulls down the
contrast between the various tones.
I then used the Ammo by MIG US
Modern Vehicles Wash as a pin-wash
over the raised details. Once this was
done, I started painting the interior.
The nicely moulded seats were painted
using Panzer Aces Light Mud, and the
canvas covers painted using Vallejo
Khaki. This was darkened slightly with
Vallejo Black, thinned and used to paint
the shadows, and then lightened with
Vallejo Buf to paint the highlights.
The monitor, keyboard and radio were
painted in black grey and dry brushed
with light grey and chrome for the
metal parts. Once the ire extinguisher
and M4 Carbine were painted it was
onto the rear stowage.
