painted silver. The new Titans are doing
well; mine has done 25,000km and Dad’s
41,000km. They are nice and quiet and
really comfortable with the 64” bunks with
Icepaks. There are nice beds, a couple of
fridges and built in cupboards. You can be
away for as long as you need and you’re
not looking for a shop, it’s cool.”
Both John and Mark have nothing but
praise for the 685hp engine and MP10
automatic gearbox.
“How simple is it to get into the truck,
push drive and put your foot on the brake
and away it goes! There is no jerking
or jumping. When you have come from
160hp, its incredible how far things have
progressed” stated John.
The fifth Mack in the Carmichael fleet
is the B model. Just like the Superliners,
Mack’s B model has a soft spot in many
operators’ hearts and John was no
different, always wanting to have one in
his shed.
In 2010, John saw a b model on eBay
and decided to bid on it. Unbeknown to
him, a mate of his was bidding against
him, eventually winning.
“He rang me up and said that he had
just bought a B model. I said oh you did?
I asked where and he said Boulia. I said
“you bastard! You were bidding against
me!” laughed John.
As it does happen, he had a bad run
and rang John and asked him if he still
wanted it? John replied that he would
only pay what his mate had plus the
transport costs to Ivanhoe.
