CURIOUS EATERY

SECRET SUPPER CLUB

Before I had children, my life revolved around food
experiences and trying new dinning experiences. Now
that my children are older, I am finally getting a chance
to have a night off, so I embraced a last-minute
opportunity for tickets to the Secret Supper Club.

The Secret Supper Club is a ‘Pop-up’ restaurant run by
the Curious Eatery. A sublime menu set in a local venue,
that isn’t normally open to the public. When you sign up
for the Secret Supper Club, you receive an email 48
hours before the evening, with venue directions and a
dress code. The menu remains a secret.

As my husband was on Daddy day care duty, I left him
to bathe the children and put them to bed, and I took
my partner in crime, Katrina from @Fotomum. We put
the post code in the sat navigation, and we soon arrived
at Herbert Hall winery in Marden. The weather did us
justice and it was the most beautiful sunny evening. We
were greeted with drinks on arrival and enjoyed the
view of the vineyard whilst listing to Eri Sonavi’s singing.

he appetiser of white bean dip, gin and juniper
marinated raisins, served with fresh bread was a real
treat, followed by savoury goats’ cheesecake, sour
grapes, poached pears, croutons, vine chips and
garnished with nasturtiums. This was my idea of heaven
and I would happily have eaten more portions of this!
There was also a lovely selection of organic wines
produced by Herbert Hall, all of which completed the
menu.

The main course was certainly a show- stopper of note.
Porchetta, slow cooked pork belly, shallot and cranberry
stuffing, crackling and pearly barley. This was served
with barbequed mackerel and samphire, with a
beautiful side salad of heirloom and summer tomatoes
with feta, along with some fresh runner beans and
French beans with aubergine. There were clean plates
all around the table.

Another treat was the arrival of Rebecca Foster, an
incredible opera singer who delivered such beautiful
effortless performances, this was the cherry on top of a
wonderful evening. It really elevated the experience to
another level and we so enjoyed the opera singing.

Even though we had eaten our full, the
summer fruit and champagne madness
dessert was beautifully presented, and we
couldn’t resist a final indulgence. The
Curious Eatery team did a sterling job of
ensuring the evening went smoothly and
credit to the team who made team- work
look easy.
