RAF Night Hurricanes Mk.I
By: Shelf Oddity
Item no: SO314430 Price: £4.70
Web: http://www.coastalcraftmodelsuk.com

Here’s a smart set of aftermarket
decals intended for Sweet’s 1/144
Hurricane Mk.I double-kit offering,
with enough markings supplied for
both models.
No instructions are provided with the
single sheet, but they are available
via: http://www.shelfoddity.com. The decals
are silk-screen printed onto glossy

carrier film,
which will
reduce silvering
markedly, and
all required
serials, national
insignia and
fin flashes
are supplied,
along with nose
and fuselage
artwork. These
are far superior to the kit markings,
and exhibit excellent register and
opacity, which is vital for such small
items on a black aircraft. There are
four options:

  • P3118/VY-X, Sqn Ldr F D J Wheeler,
85 Sqn, RAF Debden, March 1941

  • V6931/DZ-D, Flt Lt I S Blackie
Smith, 151 Sqn, RAF Wittering, May
    1941

  • W9291/M, 213 Sqn, RAF Idku, Egypt,
    August 1941

  • Z4202/H, B Flt, 30 Sqn, RAF Idku,
    Egypt, late 1941

CAF Boeing CC-137 (707-347C)
By: 26Decals
Item no: STS7211 Price: £15
Web: http://www.26decals.com

This is a different scheme for a
Heller Boeing 707 or back-dated
Heller/Italeri KC-135A, as it provides
markings for any one of Canada’s
five CC-137 Husky VIP transport
aircraft (serials 17701-5), depicted
at three periods in their 24-year
service life. There are six sheets, and
all fuselage trim is supplied in decal
form, notably the red/white cheat
line, along with a choice of solid/clear
windscreen and passenger windows,

plus cargo/passenger hatch outlines
and wing walkway areas. While the
overall white and grey/natural metal
scheme remained unchanged, the
fuselage legend changed from
‘Canadian Armed Forces/Forces
Armées Canadiennes’ to ‘Canada’
(both in red) and eventually the
comparatively low-vis black ‘Canada’
with smaller ‘Canadian Armed
Forces/Forces Armées Canadiennes’
and national flag beneath it. Note
at any one time up to two Husky
airframes were fitted with wing-
mounted air-refuelling pods, so
these may need to be scratch-built
for an accurate model.
