I lovethewallwontonsoup
at Bing’s, the Chinese food
restaurant that has been here
well before I was born. It’s family

owned and operated, and inside
looks much the same as it did in
the 1970s: bright orange seats and
small brown tables with wood-
panelled walls. You will often see
our mayor, William Choy, there
working in the evenings. He cooks
in the back and comes out with
his friendly smile to chat with
customers. The wall wonton
soup is the best I’ve ever had,
and I compare any other soup
of the same kind with it—so far,
nothing has compared to Bing’s
inmyhometown.

HS
Who’s the most famous
personintown?

BM
Jimmy.I justknowhis
first name—everyone knows
Jimmy. He’s gotta be in his 60s
now. He rides around town on
his bike in a bright yellow-and-
orange work vest. And his huge,
contagious smile can’t be missed.
He waves at everyone and seems
to know everyone by name. He
has a learning disability, but that
hasn’t stopped him from making
an impact, and he is a bright light
ofStonyPlain.

HS
What’s your favourite
road,houseortree?

BM
Mymom’shouse.It’sbeen
such a steady anchor for
us since I was in my teens. We
moved around a lot because my
parents renovated and flipped
houses when I was growing up.
But we set down roots in town
when I was about 14. That house is
special, with tons of memories. My
kids have grown up there and we
